GETTING CLOSE
It’s hard to believe that I only have another week and a half left of RevHi before summer mission begins. This past month has definitely flown by.
In addition to our normal schedule within the communities this month we have had a few different events to serve at.
On the 21st of April the Chinatown and Waianae Teams were able to take around 40 kids to the Oahu Junior Soldier rally where they were able to learn more about the Salvation Army, Jesus and connect with peers from different corps on the Island. That day some of us were able to help the Kaneohe Corps get some work done around the corps that they hadn’t been able to get done, and since we don’t have any involvement with the corps normally it was good for RevHI to be able to help out in a small way.
A couple of weeks ago the team had the opportunity to serve at the Army of Hope Gala that serves as a major fundraiser for the Salvation army here in Hawaii. Guests of the event included a lot of ARC (Adult Rehabilitation Centre) Graduates and other people whom the Salvation Army has helped to turn their lives around in sharing the love of Jesus. It was awesome to be able to hear some of their stories, but be part of that work continuing.
I feel like in so many ways God has rocked my world this year. This year I have had opportunities to experience God’s love in so many ways, from places that I really didn’t expect it. I have gotten the opportunity to pour into the lives of people and see them come to faith or deepen their relationship with the Lord. I have made some amazing friends on the streets and gotten to see God work within their lives. It would be so easy to focus on the times of discouragement from the street, when people say they want help but are not willing or ready to take steps to do so, but God has really shown me this year how important it is to continue to plant seeds, you never know what impact that one conversation may have on a person’s life even if you don’t see the results for yourself.
I have had the opportunity to step out of my comfort zone on pretty much a daily basis especially in ministry. Prior to coming to RevHi, I really hadn’t done any outreach and the idea of running Corps Cadets and leading worship seemed like a ridiculous idea that I wouldn’t do, especially any time soon.
The opportunity to spend time every day studying God’s word, learning more about His character and His Love, intentional time in prayer and the books we have read throughout the year has set the foundation to build upon when I return home in mid-august. I am excited to be able to take the things that I have learned this year and continue the revolution within my community back home. And really that’s what it’s all about. Not just spending a year here in Hawaii for myself. It has been a time for God to stretch me in my faith and equip me for what is to come when I come home.
Thankyou all so much for your support this year. I could not have been here without it. Please continue to pray for me and the team as we enter the final stage of our year heading into summer. Myself and 3 others will be staying here at Camp Homelani giving us the opportunity to spend a little more time with the kids we have been working with this year.
Pray that God rocks these kids worlds this summer and many come to know Him as a result. Please also pray for myself that I would be refreshed and renewed for the next few months as it has been full on and quite exhausting. Please also pray for God’s continued provision throughout the summer as we do need to provide for ourselves a little more than we have done so far, and I also still need to raise some money for flights and such in the coming months.
I will try to do at least one more update during the summer
Again thank you all so much for your support.
